Our school has won a Primary Science award.  The award ceremony took place in the Cultivate Sustainable & Learning Centre in Temple Bar on Tuesday 20th of June at 3.30pm.
Congratulations to our 2 junior engineers from 4th class who took part in the K-NEX challenge in DCU.  The girls received certificates and K-NEX building kits.

Our Visit to the Science Festival in Trinity College  - by RW, 3rd class

Our journey begins.  Both teachers and students from 3rd - 6th classes from St. Eithne's school began their walk to the train station. Everyone was excited, wondering what they were going to see.  When we all arrived at Trinity, we got name stickers and badges.  We went in to a room called 'Make and Listen'. The man explained how to make a kaleidoscope.  We all tried to make one.  We stopped for lunch. Then we went in to a display of 'Light and Stars'. We went into a black round tent.  A man had a laptop and showed us pictures of the first animal in space, the first man in space etc.  Then as it got darker and darker, stars appeare in the tent. He pressed a button and the stars joined together forming images of the horoscopes. He then talked about what they meant.  He pressed another button and images started to circle around inside the tent.

We walked to another display.  A lady then showed us science explosions.  First she showed us 3 cups, 2 were full of water.  She mixed them around then asked the classes to guess "which one is full of water?"   She then tried to distract us with an explosion with ingredients in a bottle.   Then she asked again "which cup do you think the water is in?"  We all said the left cup and she took it away and poured it over her head!  Everyone looked in amazement to discover there was no water in it.  Then we said 'is it the right cup?'  She tried to pour it over the front row of students.  We pulled a black blanket over our bodies to discover there was no water in the cup!  We then shouted 'was it the middle cup?'  The lady said 'will I pour it over my head, your head or your teacher's head?'  We shouted 'teacher, teacher!'  The front row said 'me, me'.  The water crystals soaked up the water stuck to the bottom and all the classes were shocked, especially me.  She continued with more experiments.

We then stopped again for lunch.  We got yo-yos from the lady.  We then played with our yo-yos and talked to each other about the day. We collected all our things and lined up to go home.  We walked to the train and stopped at the lane and we all got soaked in the rain.  We all got a lift home.   It was a great day!

This is a picture of our Science Noticeboard.  Each month a different class displays their work on it.

These are photos of our recent fieldtrip to the seashore in Sutton - we had a very interesting time.
