Welcome back to school - We hope you all had a great summer break!

The new school calendar is now available on the website.

Don't forget! - this Wednesday the 8th of September pupils will go home at 12.30pm as there is a staff meeting.

This term all classes will continue with 'The Magic of Music' lessons every Friday for 40 minutes. This was a great success with the girls over the past school year. Classes will commence on the 17th of September.

6th class will be doing swimming lessons every Thursday in Westwood in Clontarf this term. Please make sure your daughter has returned her consent form to her teacher and that she brings in all the necessary items for swimming to school on Thursdays. If you need a copy of the consent form please click here to download one. All classes will attend swimming lessons in turn during the school year.
We are delighted to announce that the school website has won an Eircom Junior Spiders award, winning the Best Design & Functionality category. The school received a trophy and a cheque sponsored by Intel Ireland. We are very proud to have received this recognition for our website. We had a visit from the Road Safety Theatre in Education production:‘Cat Ninelives in Deepest Trubble'. 2nd, 3rd & 4th classes went to the performance in the hall and really enjoyed it.
Two girls from our school represented the primary school sector at the launch of the 'Junior Spiders' awards at the Department of Education and Science. The girls got to meet the Minister for Education, Batt O' Keefe and Ursula Halligan from TV3 News!
Congratulations to all the girls who took part in 'Eithne's got Talent'. The judges had a tough job picking winners. Thanks to Ms. Bleheen for all her hard work in organising the show.
Check out Ms. Curry's fantastic garden blog which shows all the recent progress made in our school garden. Sadly Taddle the froglet went to the big pond in the sky but 3rd class gave him a fitting send off.

 

Well done to our GAA team who made it to the finals in Parnell Park. Unfortunately the girls lost the finals but they still did the school proud. Thanks to Ms. O' Donovan for all her hard work as bainisteoir. Click here to read the match report.

Recently we had Bert and Victor from the 'All Ireland Talent Show' on RTE playing some of their songs for a captive audience in the school hall.

Recently the whole school was invited to a free screening of 'Enchanted' in Cineworld, Parnell St. to launch the Cinemagic film festival. The girls had a great time and featured in the Independent newspaper with Ray Darcy!
Every year we have a book fair in our school.The girls really enjoy picking new books.
Congratulations to Ms. Curry who has been offered a grant for €1,000 from the Heritage Council for our school garden. We had a team of volunteers working in the garden and installing a new pond and lots of new beds. If any family or local business would like to sponsor a bed, please contact the school.

 

Congratulations to Ms. O' Donovan and 5th class who received an award for their project on Uganda from Irish Aid! The girls received a plaque which is now on display in our main corridor so come in and take a look. Click here to read a report on the project by one of our 5th class pupils.
Thanks to all who sent in Tesco Computers for Schools tokens again this year. We received just over 7,000 vouchers and should receive our equipment in the Autumn.
We do buddy reading in our school. An older girl reads with a pupil from a younger class. The girls really enjoy reading together!
We had a skipping demonstration in the hall. The girls learned some fantastic moves and had a really good time.

One of our 5th class pupils put a smile on the face of former taoiseach Bertie Ahern in Croke Park recently - or maybe he is just happy to be retired!

Some of our talented GAA players touched hallowed turf in Croke Park as they played a starring role at the TG4 Championship launch recently, representing different counties around Ireland.
An evaluation of the quality of teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics in St. Eithne's was undertaken in December 2007. The report has been posted on the DES website www.education.ie The report is very positive and affirming of the work being presently done in the school. A number of recommendations are also included, as well as the school's response to the findings. Click here to read the report.

Thanks to everyone who brought in artefacts for our artefacts day . We have taken photographs of the items, or scanned them in where possible. We now have our very own museum area, which is located near the new staffroom. If you are in the school go and take a look. If you find any more objects of historical interest e.g. old coins, household appliances etc. feel free to bring them in. One of the girls brought in the ration book that you can see in the picture on the right! Ms. Curry's dad brought in an iron, an oil lamp and a working gramophone and records. The girls in 2nd had great fun listening to the old Irish music.

5th class have won 1st prize in the Discover Primary ScienceCompetition. 2 girls designed a photostory on 'Acids & Bases'. The girls won a free science trip for the entire class. The winning photostory can be viewed on the Discover Primary Science website in the gallery section. Here are some members of our Green Schools' Committee being presented with our first green flag at the award ceremony in Taylor's Hall. We are now proudly flying the flag in Edenmore and have since been awarded a second green flag!
